Abstract
Online prostitution is a combination of two words namely prostitution and online, so that when combined the two words will mean the practice of prostitution or prostitution or any other sense of prostitution by using the Internet or online media in this case through the MiChat application as a means of transaction for commercial sex workers and who wish to use its services. Online prostitution is a crime that is not specifically regulated but is contained only in articles 296 of the Criminal Code and 506 of the Criminal Code, which contain threatening persons who facilitate and profit from obscene acts of a woman. In Pekanbaru police, there are online prostitution actions that have been highlighted in the news. In this case, there have been 4 cases of online prostitution crime in the last two years, which means that there are still, since it cannot be completely eradicated, it requires countermeasures that can prevent the expansion and increase of this crime. On the formulation of the problem that is the main problem of this study is how the Pekanbaru police efforts in tackling the crime of online prostitution through MiChat social media and what are the inhibiting factors of the pekanbaru police in tackling the crime of online prostitution through MiChat social media. The research method used is the empirical legal research method. This method is done by going directly to the research site to obtain information or data related to online prostitution in the legal area of pekanbaru polresta. The results of the study showed that the efforts of the local police in combating the crime of online prostitution are carried out with three events, namely pre-emptive by conducting outreach, outreach and socialization to the community, preventive by conducting cyber patrols and patrols to vulnerable areas, and repressive, namely making arrests after reports, investigations and checks on the perpetrators. While the obstacles encountered in conducting cyber patrols in the MiChat application were found many Fake accounts and also legal factors that could not ensnare all parties involved in online prositutation.
