Abstract

The implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) technology in public transportation systems can serve as a solution to enhance the efficiency and quality of services in large cities. This study aims to explore the potential integration of IoT into the bus tracking system in Pekanbaru, as a step towards supporting the city’s vision of becoming a Smart City. The IoT-based bus tracking system allows users to access real-time information about bus locations and arrival times, which can help improve the comfort and efficiency of travel. The methodology used in this study includes GPS tracker analysis through the Mitra Darat application, user needs analysis via questionnaires and interviews, using accidental sampling with a sample size of 313 respondents, as well as a literature review on the application of IoT in public transportation. The findings reveal that the majority of respondents desire a bus tracking system that provides accurate and timely information. Additionally, users expect improvements in comfort, safety, and ease of access to information. Overall, the results of this study indicate that the integration of IoT into the bus tracking system in Pekanbaru has significant potential to enhance the public transportation system, support the realization of the Smart City vision, and provide substantial benefits to the community in terms of time efficiency and comfort.
