Abstract
DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY OF LOCAL ECONOMY BASED ON SIDIMPUAN SALAK COMMODITY IN PARSALAKAN VILLAGE, NORTH SUMATRA PROVINCE KHOIRUNNISA SIREGAR 203410108 ABSTRACT This study strategies for developing the local economy based on Sidimpuan salak commodities in Parsalakan Village, Angkola Barat Subdistrict, Tapanuli Selatan Regency. As one of the largest salak production centers in North Sumatra, the village boasts 285 hectares of salak plantations with an annual production volume of 1,327,500 kilograms. Sidimpuan salak stands out for its sweet taste, dense flesh, and strong reputation in local and national markets. Data collection involved observations, questionnaires, documentation. The analytical approach utilized qualitative descriptive methods to assess existing conditions, identify supporting and inhibiting factors, and determine variables influencing productivity in Parsalakan Village. Additionally, EFAS (External Factor Analysis Summary) and IFAS (Internal Factor Analysis Summary) frameworks were employed alongside SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis to identify potentials and devise development strategies for salak commodities. The research population consisted of salak farmers in Parsalakan Village, with a sample size of 233 participants. The development of the local economy based on salak (snake fruit) commodities in Parsalakan Village holds significant potential, supported by local labor, sufficient plantation land, the superior quality of Sidimpuan salak, and the community's enthusiasm for cultivation. However, several challenges remain, including pest infestations, unfavorable climate conditions, limited innovation in downstream products, restricted access to modern agricultural technology, and insufficient capital. The high productivity of salak, driven by superior varieties, fertile soil, and abundant harvests, presents opportunities for downstream product diversification to increase farmers' income. A progressive strategy is essential to optimize this potential through promotion, innovative packaging, and expanded marketing networks, enabling Sidimpuan salak to become a regional flagship commodity that competes in both local and external markets. 4o Keywords: Strategy, Local Economy, Sidimpuan Salak, Parsalakan Village, SWOT Analysis
