Abstract

One of the problems that arise during drilling operations is filtration loss and free water which is caused by the loss of fluid (filtrate) in the formation. Losing too much fluid during the injection process can cause water deficiency in the formation, friction in the annular space and formation damage, while free water free from cement slurry with minimal water content is mixed without causing cement viscosity above 30 UC, if using water If less than If the minimum water content is added, friction will occur. will cause an increase in pressure in the annular space and cause corrosion. To prevent undesirable things from happening, it is necessary to add additives that can reduce filtration and free water loss. One way to overcome this problem is to add additives that can control filtration loss and free water. Activated carbon is an environmentally friendly alternative additive that can control filtration loss and free water without changing the drilling cement suspension. Candlenut shells are waste that can be processed into active carbon which has good absorption properties. Making candlenut shells into active carbon through a process of dehydration, carbonization and physical carbon activation. Recent developments show that around 60% of candlenut shells have the potential to become waste. The aim of this research is to utilize candlenut shell waste through a process of dehydration, carbonization and physical carbon activation to produce activated carbon.
