Abstract
This produced water can contain organic and inorganic materials originating from the well itself, such as oil & grease and phenol compounds which are toxic chemical compounds. The toxic nature of these chemical compounds will have the potential to pollute the environment if measures are not taken to treat produced water properly. An effective method to apply in the process of processing waste from produced water is the filtration method. Filtration is a physical water treatment process with the aim of removing dispersed particles in water. This method is carried out by passing the water through a porous media with the thickness and diameter of the matrix of the porous media. In practice, several porous media materials that can be used in filtration activities include zyolite sand and gravel sand, nutshells and activated carbon. In this filtration process, there is a process of separating the solid phase from the solution to remove very fine suspended particles, where the solution is passed through a porous medium or porous material. This process is used in drinking water treatment plants to obtain good water quality. There are many materials that can be used as filtration media, some of which are activated carbon and bagasse. The activated carbon used in porous media is carbon that has gone through an activation process so that it has wider pores and is able to increase its absorption capacity. The selection of activated carbon as the main media in the filtration process is based on its chemical and physical properties which are capable of absorbing organic and inorganic substances. Sugarcane bagasse contains cellulose which consists of carboxyl and lignin active groups, which are composed of phenolic groups. The chemical composition of bagasse consists of 37.65% cellulose, 22.09% lignin, 27.97% pentosan, 3.01% silica (SiO2), 3.82% ash, 1.81% essence, as well as moisture / material others 3.65%. This research tested the durability of the filtration media (15cm walnut shell and 15cm sugar cane bagasse) after the filtration process was carried out on the produced water repeatedly until the filtration media did not function effectively. The produced water was obtained from the X Mahato field, Patapahan with an oil and fat content of 35.48 mg/L, Phenol 15.21 mg/L and pH level 7.4. After testing, it was found that the resistance of the filter media could function effectively in the 9th filtration (P9) with oil and fat content 9.67 mg/L, Phenol 1.92 and pH 5.9
