Abstract

The vastness of oil palm plantations that are very common in Sumatra and Kalimantan causes the need for dodos knife harvesting tools with appropriate mechanical property qualifications to be very high. In this study, used SUP 9A steel is used as raw material to make dodos knives to make dodos knives. The material is given heat treatment by heating to a temperature of 850 ° C with a holding time of 30 minutes and 45 minutes and rapid cooling is carried out in different media, namely water, salt water and oil, then tempering is carried out at a temperature of 250 ° C for 30 minutes followed by slow cooling, namely in the air. Then the material is tested for impact, hardness and its microstructure is observed, the results of the study indicate that the 30-minute holding time gives lower impact results than the 45-minute holding time, the water cooling media, salt water gives the lowest impact price and the hardness is also low, conversely cooling in oil gives the highest impact price, namely 1.35 J / mm². For a holding time of 45 minutes and 0.47 for a holding time of 30 minutes. And also the hardness value is also high, namely 1229 hbw for a holding time of 30 minutes and 1044 hbw for a holding time of 45 minutes.
