Abstract

Sibling rivalry is defined as competition between siblings which is a tension that occurs between brothers and sisters. In sibling rivalry, there is competition between siblings for love, affection and attention from one or both parents. The bad impact of continuing sibling rivalry is that children will continue to compete and hate each other into adulthood, if parents don't deal with it immediately. The purpose of this study was to see how the mother's perception when sibling rivalry behavior appeared. The method used is a qualitative method with 4 informants who are mothers in the Permata Bening Phase 7 Housing, and have children aged 3-7 years with a birth spacing of 1-3 years. The results of this study found that mothers' perceptions of sibling rivalry behavior that appeared were still low, this was related to the level of knowledge of mothers on information about sibling rivalry which was also low. Then the mother's strategies for sibling rivalry behavior that appear in children are varied and the communication used when children experience sibling rivalry behavior uses verbal and non-verbal communication
