Abstract

Spent Bleaching Earth is the largest waste produced by the palm oil refinery and oleochemical industries. Palm oil refinery capacity generally ranges from 600 tons to 2,500 tons/day, and assuming the use of bleaching earth of 1%-2% in the refining process, an average of 6-50 tons/day of SBE will be produced. This research aims to determine the comparison of compressive strength between SBE mixed concrete and normal concrete, and the optimal percentage of SBE used in concrete. This research method was carried out based on the standardization of SNI 7656- 2012. The test object was a cylindrical concrete measuring 15 x 30 cm with variations in the addition of SBE of 0%, 6%, 8% and 10% to the cement weight with a total of 12 samples. The results of the research show that the use of Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE) with variations of 0%, 6%, 8%, and 10% as a partial replacement for cement, the compressive strength of concrete at the age of 28 days of test specimens is 21 Mpa, 16.7 respectively. MPa, 15.4 MPa, and 13.6 MPa. From the results of research on concrete with the addition of the percentage of Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE), namely 6%, 8%, 10%, the compressive strength test value decreased from the planned normal concrete, for future researchers to use Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE) <5% to get the planned results.
