Abstract

Petrophysics is one of the GGR methods used to determine the presence of hydrocarbons. In optimizing the assessment of the potential development of hydrocarbon zones, it is necessary to conduct a petrophysical analysis by considering the parameters of shale volume and porosity. The presence of shale in a formation will affect the quality of the reservoir, because the shale content can change the porosity and permeability values. Porosity is an important parameter because it assesses the ability of rocks to store hydrocarbons. Petrophysical analysis of the Central Sumatra Basin X field at wells ZR-01, ZR-02, ZR-03, and ZR-04 against seven formations was conducted to understand reservoir characteristics, especially in terms of the ability of rocks to store and transport hydrocarbons. The calculation of shale volume was carried out using gamma ray logs to determine the effective porosity free of shale content. Porosity values obtained from density logs and neutron logs will be validated against the influence of shale content with VSH vs PHIE crossplots, sidewall core data and swabtest data. The method carried out in this study is based on qualitative and quantitative analysis carried out using Paradigm Geolog software to determine shale volume and porosity in seven formations in the X Field. The results obtained include shale volume values in seven formations, namely 61%, 55%, 70%, 44%, 63%, 24%, and the T_G formation has the lowest shale volume of 19%. Total porosity values of 25%, 17%, 12%, 13%, 9%, 11%, and 7% excellent porosity values (25%) are owned by the T_A formation. Meanwhile, effective porosity values were recorded as 17%, 9%, 5%, 9%, 3%, 9%, and 5%. The analysis shows that the shale volume and porosity values obtained are consistent with the VSH vs PHIE crossplot and in agreement with sidewall core and swabtest data. The validation performed shows that the method used is accurate and reliable in describing reservoir characteristics.
