Abstract

Pekanbaru City as one of the developing cities in Indonesia, also faces challenges related to student security and safety in the school environment, Motorists' understanding of the concept and importance of safe zones is still a concern. The purpose of this study is to identify the completeness of School Safe Zone signs, examine the understanding and behavior of motorists while in the School Safe Zone. This research is a descriptive research. Data collection was carried out by distributing test questions to respondents and conducting direct surveys to examine the completeness of ZoSS signs and speed. The speed survey was conducted for 3 working days, the results of the speed survey included the instantaneous speed of vehicles crossing the School Safe Zone measured using a speed gun, the population for the test question was 400 respondents, while the population for speed was all vehicles crossing the School Safe Zone, and a minimum sample size of 30 vehicles. In conclusion, while the population for speed is all vehicles crossing the School Safe Zone, and the sample size is at least 30 vehicles. The conclusion is that there are 3 schools that have quite good School Safe Zone signs, namely SDN 164 Pekanbaru, SDN 21 Pekanbaru and, SDN 36 Pekanbaru. The respondents' understanding when answering the test questions was quite good with an understanding level of 76.84%. The average speed of vehicles when crossing the School Safe Zone is 29 km/h with a violation rate of 36.80%.
