Abstract

Drilling mud is a very important parameter in a drilling operation and has several functions, including holding reservoir pressure, carrying out cutting wiring and cleaning the bottom of the drill hole. Mud rheology and filtration loss are physical properties that must be controlled because they can help control formation pressure, determine the ability of mud in drill shale when drilling is stopped and lift drilled solids. To obtain appropriate filtration loss and rheology results, additives need to be added to the drilling mud. One of the additives used is activated carbon because active carbon has better control over filtration loss and rheology of drilling mud. Teak wood sawdust is waste from cutting furniture or furniture that is rarely used and is then used to make active carbon. Teak wood contains 40.26 - 43.12% cellulose, 27.07 - 31.97% hemicellulose and 24.74 - 28.07% lignin. The stages of making active carbon from teak sawdust include the processes of dehydration, carbonization and activation. The activation used is physical activation. Then it is added to the drilling mud with a composition of 2 gr, 4 gr, 6 gr, 8 gr and 10 gr of activated carbon to determine the value of filtration loss and rheology of the drilling mud. Based on tests that have been carried out on standard mud with the addition of a mass of 2 gr - 10 gr of activated carbon teak wood powder obtained a filtration loss value of 16 ml - 10 ml in accordance with API standards. In rheology of drilling mud for standard mud with the addition of 2 gr - 10 gr activated carbon, the viscosity value obtained is 23.42 s - 35.48 s, which does not comply with API standards, the plastic viscosity value is 6 cp - 11 cp, which does not comply with API standards, the yield point value is 12 lb/100ft² - 13 lb/100ft², the strength value of 10s gel which is 2 – 3 lb/100ft² and the strength value of 10m gel which is 5 – 10 lb/100ft² does not meet API standards.
