Abstract
During the production process, when the fluid is flowing from a well to a collection station, water and oil are often mixed, which is called an emulsion. These emulsions affect the quality of petroleum and can have an adverse effect on production equipment, as they contain water droplets containing unwanted salts. To be able to overcome the emulsion problem, a demulsification process was carried out using chemicals, namely a demulsifier using the bottle test method, which was carried out to get the right demulsifier in dealing with petroleum emulsions in field X. This research was conducted to see which chemical was suitable used in field X and to know the performance between synthetic demulsifier and organic demulsifier on the salinity of NaCl and KCl. The temperature used in this study, namely 60?C in a monitoring time of 120 minutes Through the results obtained, this research shows that the demulsifier that is suitable for breaking emulsions using the bottle test method is an organic demulsifier because it produces 50 ml water separation at a concentration of 1 ml of 10000 ppm NaCl and 5 ml of 1000 ppm KCl for a separation time of 120 minutes. The for the BS&W separation results, the demulsifier that is most suitable for breaking up the emulsion is a syinthetic demulsifier with a concentration of 3 ml KCl at 10000 ppm which produces values of 0,33%.
