Abstract
Gas hydrates are a problem related to water transmission, especially in offshore pipes. Hydrate formation in subsea pipelines is a major problem that arises due to temperature drops and other thermodynamic changes during production. The formation of hydrates in subsea pipes must be prevented effectively to prevent large amounts of heat loss so that the pipes operate normally. Subsea pipeline insulation is very important to avoid the possibility of Hydrate formation. This study analyzes the sensitivity of the hydrate compound formation process in a flow line system with a diameter of 9.5" with a length of approximately 22 km in a deep water gas field, based on actual conditions and production rate assumptions. Modeling to study hydrate formation is carried out by building an underwater piping system model which is depicted from the wellhead to the surface pipe using the Aspen HYSYS process simulator. In this field located offshore the Makassar Strait, it has a pressure of 1900 psig, a temperature of 125 °F and a production flow rate of 85 MMSCFD as basic conditions. Results from Aspen Hysys software analysis shows that the insulation material used is Urethane Foam with a thermal conductivity value of 18 W/m-K and a thickness of the insulation material of 150 mm
