Abstract

Polymer flooding as one of the EOR methods is meant to avoid water fingering which sometimes occurs due to the lower viscosity of water than oil. One type of biopolymer complex such as starch, dextran, xanthan, chitosan and cellulose. One of the plants that can be used in the manufacture of biopolymers is pineapple leaf cellulose. Pineapple leaves have a cellulose content of around 73.4%. In this study, researchers wanted to take advantage of the cellulose content in pineapple leaves to be used as a material for making biopolymers which would later be applied to the application of the chemical EOR method. The stages in this study were sample preparation, hydrolysis using sulfuric acid (H2SO4), extraction and characterization tests in the form of compatibility, viscosity, shear rate, and FTIR tests. This study used concentration variations of 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, and 0.5% at salinities of 50,000 ppm, 60,000 ppm, 70,000 ppm at temperatures of 50°C and 60°C. The best hydrolysis results were obtained at 40% H2SO4 with a yield value of 92.5%. The yield of pineapple leaf biopolymer at a concentration of 0.2%. 0.3% and 0.5% did not pass the compatibility test at all salinities and temperatures, whereas xanthan gum biopolymer at all competitive concentrations, salinities and temperatures had a clear solution and no precipitate. The results of the viscosity vs shear rate of pineapple leaves, the highest viscosity value, namely the concentration of 0.5% 10.43 cP at a salinity of 50,000 ppm. Pineapple leaf biopolymer was detected to contain cellulose by the appearance of OH, C-H, C-O, and C=O groups on the FTIR test.
