Abstract
Transportation plays an important role in people's lives, especially in supporting mobility and economic growth. Jalan HR Soebrantas in Pekanbaru City is one of the main routes that has high traffic intensity, especially due to the presence of the U-Turn in front of STIE Riau and Awal Bros. Hospital. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of traffic flow, U-Turn performance, and its effect on traffic flow on the road section. This research uses a quantitative method with a survey approach to collect primary data, such as traffic volume, vehicle speed, and road geometry. Data were collected through field observations in the morning, afternoon, evening, and night. The analysis was conducted using the Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) 2023, which evaluates road capacity and degree of saturation. The results showed that the U-Turn traffic volume in weekday was 3845 smp/hour and 3852 smp/hour in weekend. The degree of saturation reached 0.81- 0.86, with level of service category C. with a p-value of 0.00 < 0.05 the U-Turn was shown to have a significant effect on reducing speed and increasing the volume of disturbed flow. Therefore, design and management improvements are needed, such as the addition of traffic signals and spacing between U-Turns to minimize negative impacts.
