Abstract

Brick production is one of the strategic manufacturing industries that currently faces various challenges and competition, such as increased market demand and the need to ensure product quality. PT Rafindo Mutiara Abadi, as one of the brick manufacturers, has been identified through a preliminary survey as experiencing some waste in its production process. The purpose of this study is to identify waste in the brick production process at PT Rafindo Mutiara Abadi. The method in this study uses the concept of Value Stream Mapping (VSM). VSM is a visualization tool that maps the flow of materials and information from the beginning to the end of the production process. VSM helps companies identify actions that do not add value (non value added) and activities that are value added but not necessary (necessary but not value added). Data was collected by observing the entire brick making process at PT Rafindo Mutiara Abadi. Based on the VSM analysis, it was found that waste in the brick production process includes waiting time for 90.66 minutes, transportation for 42.65 minutes, and excessive processing for 15.26 minutes. After implementing improvements using VSM, there was a decrease in cycle time from 549.22 minutes to 421.36 minutes, reducing wastage by 23.28%. This reduction was achieved by eliminating Non-Value Added (NVA) activities and reducing Necessary But Not Value Added (NNVA) activities.
