Abstract
A The process of burning bricks generally requires burning at a high temperature of around 800°C using firewood or coal. But this method of making bricks by burning is not good to do continuously, because it will result in an increase in a large amount of carbon dioxide gas. Carbon dioxide gas is one of the main causes of environmental problems, such as: the greenhouse effect and air pollution. The purpose of this study is to determine the optimum content of the mixture of empty bunch ash of oil palm (ATKKS) and cement for bricks without burning. The percentage composition of the original soil material is 100%, the addition of cement is 10% and the empty oil palm bunch ash is 0%, 3%, 6% and 10% and the drying time is 7, 14 and 28 days. The standard for testing the physical and mechanical properties of bricks without burning uses SNI-2094-2000. As well as testing the properties of the original soil, including soil specific gravity (Gs), soil water content and sieve analysis. Based on the results of the compressive strength tests that were carried out, it was found that the highest compressive strength value was found for a mixture of 10% cement and 10% ash from empty palm fruit bunches with a drying age of 14 days, namely 29.4 kg/cm2. The lowest compressive strength value was obtained from a mixture of 10% cement and 0% empty palm fruit bunch ash with a drying age of 7 days, amounting to 19.4 kg/cm2. The compressive strength value does not meet the SNI-2094-2000 compressive strength standard, namely a minimum of 50 kg/cm2. The highest apparent density was obtained in a mixture of 10% cement and 6% empty palm fruit bunch ash at a drying age of 28 days of 1.55 grams/cm3 and the lowest apparent density was 1.31 grams/cm3 in a mixture of 10% cement and ash. 3% empty palm fruit bunches with a drying age of 7 days. For apparent density, all mixture variations and drying ages meet the minimum value requirements, namely 1.2 grams/cm3 according to SNI-2094-2000. Meanwhile, for water absorption, all mixture variations and drying ages meet the maximum value requirement of 20% according to SNI-2094-2000.
