Abstract
The filler material commonly used in flexible pavement mixtures is stone ash, but its supply is limited and the price is relatively expensive. So there is a need for alternative materials that can be used as a substitute for filler. In this research, another alternative material was used, namely iron powder waste. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of using iron powder filler in AC-WC mixtures. This research was carried out by referring to the 2018 General Specifications for Highways, and using the Marshall test method. The percentage of iron powder filler used is 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%. Based on the research results, the Optimum Asphalt Content was 5.30%. The VMA and VIM parameters experienced increases and decreases with increasing iron powder filler mixture, the VFB parameters experienced decreases and increases with increasing iron powder filler mixture, the stability parameters decreased with increasing variations in filler content, from 1289 kg to 900 kg, however The stability value results still meet the 2018 Bina Marga Specifications, Revision 2. The flow value increased along with increasing variations in filler content from 3.37 mm – 4.27 mm, until a percentage of 100% produced a value that was above the maximum limit. Variations of iron powder filler in percentages of 0%, 25%, 50% and 75% which meet the General Specifications for Bina Marga, Revision 2.
