Abstract

In life there is a problem of environmental conditions in the form of pollution, this pollution comes from wastewater sources. Wastewater is produced from liquid waste water from communities, households, industries, groundwater, surface water, public places and other discharges. The Basic Laboratory of Riau Islamic University is one of the buildings that produces waste liquid waste. Where the potential of this liquid waste can have an impact on the surrounding environment, especially the soil and water environment, so it needs to be processed first through the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The study aims to determine the characteristics of the processed liquid waste and analyze the capacity of the WWTP capacity volume at Riau Islamic University. The research method used is descriptive method by collecting secondary data in the form of data on the number and schedule of basic laboratory assistants, data on liquid waste test results and IPAL SOPs. Primary data was obtained through field observations with the aim of obtaining an overview of the conditions at the WWTP. The results showed that the characteristics of liquid waste did not meet the quality standards of Permen LH No.5 of 2014, namely COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) of 220 mg / l while for the characteristics of liquid waste that meet the requirements as follows: BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand) qualified at 0.408 mg/l, TSS (Total Susppended Solid) at 1.040 mg/l and VSS (Volatile Suspended Solids) at 0.5614 mg/l. The capacity of the WWTP can meet the liquid waste generated at each hour of existing practicum activities where the actual capacity in the reservoir or equalization is 1.0045 m3, the actual storage of the biofilter tub is 2.0347 m3 and the actual final tub storage is 0, 249 m3 with the actual storage of the largest liquid waste generated of 0.92 m3 / day and for the average value of liquid waste generated in the use of the practicum for 5 (five) days a value of 2.494 m3 / day was obtained which can be considered capable / fulfilling in the IPAL management process at the Basic Laboratory of Riau Islamic University.
