Abstract
The study focuses on expansive soils, which are soils that undergo changes in volume due to changes in moisture content. Expansive soils contain clay minerals that can absorb water, causing an increase in soil volume. The research conducted a case study analysis of the potential for soil shrinkage expansion and road damage on the Tapung-Tandun road section in Indonesia. The study involved testing the physical and mechanical properties of the soil, including water content, specific gravity, Atterberg limit, and hydrometer analysis. Additionally, a California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test was conducted in the laboratory. In addition, the variation of soaking time used is 0, 4, and 7 days, while the soaking time used is 4 days. The results showed that the CBR values of the original soil and mixed soil increased with prolonged curing time. The study found that after 4 days of soaking, the CBR value increased to 11.49% compared to 8.15% at 0 days of soaking. The potential expansion of the soil was determined to be 0.144%, %, and the level of activeness of soil expansion is 0.11%, this shows that the soil on the Tapung-Tandung road section has low expansion potential.
