Abstract

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IN WASTE MANAGEMENT IN WEST TANGKERANG VILLAGE, PEKANBARU CITY By : IRFAN HANIF 163410392 Regional and Urban Planning Study Program Faculty of Engineering, Riau Islamic University ABSTRACT Community involvement in waste management in residential areas will provide benefits for the government because it can reduce costs. One form of community involvement in waste management is in the form of reducing, sorting, containerizing, disposing/collecting, and reusing. Waste management in the West Tangkerang Village, Pekanbaru City District, is relatively not optimal, this can be seen by the large amount of waste scattered due to a less than optimal container and transportation system. The participation of the local community is expected to be a solution for waste management in the area. This study aims to examine and find out how the form and level of community participation in West Tangkerang Village in waste management. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method to describe the conditions of community participation in waste management in the West Tangkerang Village of Pekanbaru City and uses a qualitative descriptive method with a weighting using a Likert scale to assess the level of community participation based on the 5M concept which includes reducing, sorting, containerizing, disposing/collecting, and reuse. The results showed that community participation activities in West Tangkerang Village in waste management by reducing, sorting, containerizing, disposing/collecting, and reusing were still minimal. Meanwhile, based on combined calculations, the total score obtained in the study was 2,141 where the total score was between the low category participation level, namely 1620 - 2340.Level of Participation, Community and Waste Management
