Abstract
The aim of this research was to determine the level of understanding of Arabic texts among Junior High School YLPI Pekanbaru students and to formulate and explain the obstacles faced by Junior High School YLPI Pekanbaru students in comprehending the content of Arabic texts. The research employed a qualitative descriptive design, and the data collection techniques included a test on understanding Arabic text reading and documentation. The findings of this research revealed that the number of students who obtained scores in the 94-100 interval or met the criteria for excellent was 0 students, accounting for 0%. Those who scored in the 87-93 interval or met the criteria for good were 1 student, representing 3.3%. In the 80-86 interval, indicating a satisfactory level, there were 4 students or 13.3%. The 73-79 interval, categorized as less satisfactory, had 6 students, amounting to 20.0%. The 0-72 interval, considered unsatisfactory, comprised 19 students, making up 63.3%. The average score obtained by the students was 61.8, indicating that the overall student performance fell into the unsatisfactory category. The obstacles faced by students in understanding Arabic texts included a lack of knowledge in diacritics, very limited vocabulary, understanding the text context, sentence structure, and grammar.
