Abstract
The need for river cast sand which is widely used as a construction material, as well as mining activities that can damage the environment, has resulted in its limited availability. So a different type of sand is needed, namely urug sand. The selected cast sand is Danau Bingkuang cast sand which is in the upper reaches of the Kampar river. While the urug sand used is Garuda Sakti Pekanbaru urug sand. This study aims to determine the comparison of compressive strength of paving blocks using cast sand Lake Bingkuang and sand urug Garuda Sakti and determine the composition of the mixture of cast sand Lake Bingkuang and sand urug Garuda Sakti is optimal and can produce compressive strength that is included in the quality standards of SNI 03-0691-1996. This research is experimental in nature, by conducting research in laboratories and paving block manufacturing plants that refer to SNI 03-0691-1996. The paving block specimens in this study were cubes measuring 10.5 x 10.5 x 10.5 cm which were made mechanically.Making test objects using mechanical methods with a composition of 1Pc:4 Ps with variations in the use of urug sand mixture against cast sand of 0%, 5%, 15%, 30%, 70%, 85%, 95%, 100%.Compressive strength testing on paving blocks is carried out at the age of 28 days of treatment. The average compressive strength results show that the use of Danau Bingkuang cast sand and Garuda Sakti urug sand can produce compressive strength in two different qualities. Quality A is obtained by using Danau Bingkuang cast sand with a composition of 100%, 95%, 85%, 70% against Garuda Sakti urug sand and has a compressive strength value of 43.5 MPa, 44.8 MPa, 39.8 MPa, 37.2 MPa respectively. While Quality B is obtained by using Garuda Urug sand with a composition of 100%, 95%, 85%, 70% of Danau Bingkuang cast sand and has a compressive strength value of 21.7 MPa, 27.6 MPa, 28.7 MPa, 31.1 MPa respectively.
