Abstract

THE EFFECT OF VARIING THE NUMBER OF DRYING RACKS ON THE PERFORMANCE OF RACK-TYPE CASSAVA DRYERS Wan Rachmat Kadafi Mechanical Engineering Study Program, Faculty Of Engineering Islamic University Of Riau Jl. Kaharuddin Nasution Km 11 No.113 Penghentian Marpoyan, Pekanbaru Telp. 081321111679 Email: khadafirahmatwan@gmail.com Abstract In parts of the year not so long ago, the development of the global economy continued to grow rapidly, not least in Indonesia. The massive use of fossil fuels such as petroleum, natural gas, coal makes the development of alternative energies continue to be developed, one of which is solar energy, which is the solar energy dryer. The aim of the study was to determine the influence of variation in the number of drying racks on the performance of the best rack type of potato grinders. Cassava to be tested is as much as 7 kg for 2 tools, maeving tools containing 3,5 kg as well as the number of drying racks varied 1 rack, 2 rack, 3 rack, 4 rack, 5 rack, 6 rack, and 7 rack. It turns out that the number of drying racks has an effect on the performance of the shelf-type parsnip dryer, the number of shelves that absorb more heat and thus affect the better performance in drying. The number of drying racks with the best performance of the tested parameters is day 7 with the number of dryer racks 7 obtained the value of material mass reduction of 2.313 kg, the value of wet moisture content of 66.48%, the value of drying energy of 5558.40 kJ, the value of the mass flow rate of water vapor through the material of 0.00010708 kg/h, the value of the mass flow rate of the dryer is 0.0121 kg/h, the value of the mass flow rate of the dryer is 0.0121 kg/h, the value of the efficiency value drying rate of 83.87%.
