Abstract
This study was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) that focused on research conducted at the AL-FITYAH Islamic Junior High School in Pekanbaru. The subjects of this research were ninth-grade students (B) in the odd semester of the academic year 2023/2024, totaling 25 students. The data analysis technique used in this research was quantitative. Data collection was carried out through observation and tests. The success indicators for this research were set at 75% for both the classical and individual aspects. This was evident in the results of the observation of teacher activities in implementing open-ended questions. In cycle I, the percentage reached 77.7%, showing an improvement in cycle II to 86.6%. Similar improvements were observed in students' critical thinking skills tests. The skills test results at the beginning of the cycle showed a classical completeness rate of 0% and a non-classical completeness rate of 100%, with an average score of 58% categorized as fairly critical. In cycle I, the classical completeness rate was 28%, non-classical completeness rate was 72%, with an average score of 72% categorized as "critical." In cycle II, the classical completeness rate was 96%, nonclassical completeness rate was 4%, with an average score of 85% categorized as "very critical."
