Abstract

Residential areas on the banks of the river Still have an image of being underdeveloped, slum, and untouched due to the development of the riverside area which is not a major concern. Slum settlements in Selat Panjang Barat Village are settlements located on the banks of rivers, besides that this area is also a downtown area that has trade and service activities which further exacerbate the conditions of residential areas. The purpose of this research is to make priority directions for handling slum settlements in Selat Panjang Barat Village that are in accordance with the physical conditions of the area and the main causal factors for the emergence of slum settlements in Selat Panjang Barat Village. This study uses a quantitative descriptive research method with a deductive approach. The analytical method used is descriptive quantitative and scoring analysis using a Likert scale. The results of this study are the main causal factors for the emergence of slum settlements, namely poor clean water services, very low orderliness of buildings, sanitation networks, drainage networks, and the quality of buildings that are predominantly non-permanent with poor quality, floods, and no legal ownership of land. . The slum level in Selat Panjang Barat Village is RW 5 with a very high level of slum, RW 2 and RW 4 with a high slum category, and RW 1 and RW 3 with a low level of slum. Handling of slum settlements according to the level of slums includes improving the quality of human resources (HR), construction and improvement of facilities and infrastructure, management of coastal border areas, and management of buildings and land legality, community economic empowerment.Settlement, Slum, Priority.
