Abstract

This study is motivated by the discovery of students with low learning achievement of Islamic Studies at SMPN 25 Pekanbaru. The low learning achievement of students is due to the fact that there are still some students who do not feel happy, lack enthusiasm in learning, only attend lessons to avoid a failing grade, and fell being forced to study. These students’ attitudes are considered to be the result of their parenting styles. Therefore, the problem formulation of the study is: How do the parenting styles influence the students’ achievement in learning Islamic Studies at SMPN 25 Pekanbaru. The study aims to understand the influence of parenting styles on students’ achievement in learning Islamic Studies at SMPN 25 Pekanbaru. This is a quantitative study with a causality approach, which investigates the causal relationship between one variable and another variable. The population of this study is the students from grades 8.1 to 8.8 at SMPN 25 Pekanbaru, totaling 241 students. The sample is taken by using the Slovin formula so that it becomes 150 students. The data collection techniques of the study are questionnaires and documentation. The results of the descriptive analysis show that the parenting styles at SMPN 25 Pekanbaru have a score of 63.2% which is included in a quite good category, while the overall learning achievement of students has an average score of 76.77 which is included in a medium category. The results of the hypothesis using the ttest show that the t-count value is 12.375, and a sig value is 0.000. The t-table value for df (158; 0.025) = 1.976, so it can be concluded that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted or that there is a positive and significant influence of parenting styles on students’achievements in learning Islamic Studies in grade 8 at SMPN 25 Pekanbaru. This result is evidenced by the value of t-count (12.375) > t-table (1.967), and the sig value (0.000) <0.05.
