Abstract

In the palm oil processing, one of the most important steps is boiling the fruit or sterilizing it. During the boiling process, it is hoped that the temperature and steam pressure as well as the working time on the sterilizer must be correct so that it does not damage the quality of the CPO and the sterilizer material is also maintained and safe. Therefore the authors aim to analyze the thermal on the horizontal sterilizer using a thermodynamic analysis approach and look for thermal efficiency at peaks I, II and III. This research was completed with a anlisist and matematic method where data collection was carried out using literature study techniques and field observations. The first results of this study are heat absorbed or transient conduction on trucks at peaks I, II, III, respectively, 392.476 MJ, 77.186 MJ and 28.457 MJ and on oil palm fruit at peaks I, II, III, respectively, 2.164,273 MJ, 1.407,039 MJ and 480,314 MJ. The second is heat loss or E out at peaks I, II, III respectively, namely 606,53 MJ, 910,71 MJ, and 1.063,04 MJ. Third, the final temperature of the lorry at peak I is 384,5 K, at peak II is 400,52 K and at peak III is 406,42 K and the temperature of the oil palm fruits at peaks I is 350,85 K, at peak II is 390,115 K, at peak III is 406,268 K. Finally, the sterilizer efficiency values at peaks I, II, III are consecutive namely 81,081%, 80,67 % and 80,53 %. From the research conducted, it was concluded that the heat transient conducton by the lorries and oil palm fruit was most significant occured at peak I. The highest E out at peak III namely 1.063,0479 MJ and it was found that the highest efficiency value occurred at peak I is 81,08I%.
