Abstract
This research examines the implementation of restorative justice in theft cases at the Indragiri Hulu District Attorney's Office, Indonesia. Using direct observation methods and a descriptive analysis approach, this study investigates the mediation process involving victims, suspects, families, and community leaders, with prosecutors as facilitators. This research explores the concept of restorative justice as an alternative to the conventional justice system, emphasizing restoration and reconciliation rather than punishment alone. The study aims to examine the implementation of restorative justice in theft cases at the Indragiri Hulu District Attorney's Office and identify the obstacles faced in its application. Restorative justice is an alternative approach in the criminal justice system that emphasizes repairing damages and relationships between perpetrators, victims, and the community. This study uses qualitative research methods with an empirical juridical approach. Data is collected through in-depth interviews with relevant parties at the Indragiri Hulu District Attorney's Office and analysis of relevant documents. The research results are expected to provide a comprehensive picture of restorative justice practices in handling theft cases, as well as reveal various obstacles that hinder its effective implementation. The findings of this study are expected to provide input for stakeholders in developing policies and strategies to optimize the implementation of restorative justice in the future. The findings show that the application of restorative justice at the Indragiri Hulu District Attorney's Office involves a process of apology, compensation negotiation, and efforts to restore relationships. This study identifies key challenges, including potential rejection of this process by victims or the community. The research also underlines the importance of socializing the concept of restorative justice, developing specific regulations, and changing paradigms in handling theft cases.
