Abstract
ST 37 steel is steel that has a low carbon content. The main problem with steel is corrosion. Inhibitors play a big role in protecting the service life of various equipment in the industrial world because they can inhibit corrosion. Boiler ash is a type of ash that is used as a corrosion inhibitor because it contains silica. Silica is a metal oxide compound that is used as an inhibitor to protect metals from corrosion. Jackfruit sap is a type of sap that has elastic properties, adhesive strength and heat resistance, so jackfruit sap is very suitable for use as a coating material. This thesis aims to determine the effect of coating composition of boiler ash and jackfruit sap on the corrosion rate of low carbon steel. The corrosion rate measurement method used is the weight loss method. The coating composition (boiler ash: jackfruit sap) was 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 1:2, and 1:3 and soaked for 5 days and calculated the weight loss, corrosion rate, and inhibitor efficiency. The results of the research showed that the lowest coating thickness was 0.21 mm for the 1:1 coating composition, and the highest coating thickness was for the 1:3 coating composition, 1.51 mm. A good coating composition to inhibit the rate of corrosion on st 37 steel is a coating composition of 3:1 with a thickness of 0.82 mm. The highest inhibitor efficiency was in a 1:2 coating composition with a thickness of 1.44 mm with a value of 89.96710%.
