Abstract
The extent of peatland causes most structures made of steel such as pipelines, vessels, and building support structures to pass through the peat water, this can cause the metal to be susceptible to corrosion. Corrosion is a material degradation process and a decrease in the quality of a material due to the influence of chemical and electrochemical reactions with the environment. One way to inhibit the corrosion rate is by adding an inhibitor solution. The purpose of this study was to use belimbing wuluh leaves as an organic inhibitor with peat water corrosive media and to determine the effect of varying concentrations of belimbing wuluh dayu extract, namely 0%, 3%, 6%, 9%, 12% and 15% and soaking time for 5 days, 10 days, 15 days, 20 days, and 25 days on ASTM 36 steel. Based on the results of the study it was found that the concentration of 15% inhibitor of belimbing wuluh leaf extract on steel experienced the lowest corrosion rate of 0.227 mm/y with an efficiency value of 61% compared to other concentrations. This proves that the addition of inhibitor concentration can inhibit the corrosion rate.
