Abstract

This study aims to investigate the implementation of the problem-based learning method to increase students’ self-confidence at the fifth grade of SDN 001 Kepenuhan of Rokan Hulu because the level of students’ self-confidence is still relatively low according to the pre-observation results. The type of the study is classroom action research. The subject of the study is the 5th grade students at SDN 001 Kepenuhan of Rokan Hulu, totaling 29 students. The data collection techniques of the study are observation and observation sheets conducted in two cycles. Based on the study, it can be seen that the students’ self-confidence before implementing the problem-based learning method was <50% or in the low category. After implementing the problem-based learning method in cycle I, there was an increase in students’ self-confidence up to 51.72% or in the medium category. Because the students’ average score had not yet reached the minimum standard, so it was continued to the cycle II. In cycle II, the students’ self-confidence level increased to 82.76% or in the high category. In conclusion, the implementation of the problem-based learning method can increase students’ self-confidence at the fifth grade of SDN 001 Kepenuhan of Rokan Hulu.
