Abstract

This study is motivated by the discovery of problems of low religious tolerance at SMAN 6 Tualang, such as the presence of several students who insulted each other between religions, did not make friends with other students of different religions, and lacked concern for students of different religions. The problem formulation of the study is how to internalize the values of religious tolerance by Islamic Studies teachers at SMAN 6 Tualang, Siak Regency. The aim of the study is to investigate the process of internalizing the values of religious tolerance by Islamic Studies teachers at SMAN 6 Tualang, Siak Regency. The religious tolerance can be defined as the attitude of individuals who accept and acknowledge the reality of differences in beliefs, or other actions even though they think these beliefs are wrong and should be rejected. The object of the study is SMAN 6 Tualang, Siak Regency and the subjects of the study are the Islamic Studies teachers and the principal of SMAN 6 Tualang, Siak Regency. This is a qualitative study. The data collection techniques of the study are interviews and documentation. The data processing techniques of the qualitative study are data reduction, data display and data verification. The results of the study show that in the process of internalizing the values of religious tolerance by the Islamic Studies teachers at SMAN 6 Tualang, the teachers have created an attitude of religious tolerance which in its implementation is by not discriminating against students, respecting other religious beliefs, and giving freedom to students to take part in extracurriculars. Meanwhile, the obstacles of the implemention are the lack of facilities and there are still social groups in the school environment, both Muslim and non-Muslim.
