Abstract

Biogas is a gas mixture of methane (CH 4 ), carbon dioxide (CO ) and other gases obtained from the decomposition of organic matter (such as animal waste, human waste and plants) by methanogenic bacteria. Cow dung is a waste product of cow digestion. Cow manure has the potential to be used as a renewable energy source to produce biogas because it has a high CH 4 2 (methane) content which makes cow manure used as raw material for biogas. This study aims to make and test a biogas digester tool on cow manure to produce biogas that is more flexible, easier to operate and cheaper to manufacture, and is beneficial for village cattle breeders in Rumbai sub-district. The methods used are design, literature studies, field surveys and tool sketches. This research resulted in several design options for biogas digester equipment, according to the specified design target requirements. From the design options made, the best design was chosen, namely the fixed dome biodigester type design, from a comparison between designs and predetermined design targets. With the amount of cow manure of 540 kg, the mass of gas formed for 32 days is 0.02876 m³/kg. if averaged every day the mass of gas formed is as much as0.0486323m³/kg. For every day the need for cow dung for biogas is needed as much as 450kg every month.
