Abstract

The reason for researching assertive speech acts in the Mata Najwa program is because, in the conversations between Najwa and her sources, many assertive speech acts were found. Najwa as the host of the event always provoked the speakers with questions that made the speakers have to answer and explain something. This is what makes the writer interested in conducting research on assertive speech acts in the program. The problem in this research is how to use assertive speech acts in the program Mata Najwa: Summarize Campus Sexual Predators. The purpose of this research is to explore and elaborate on assertive speech acts contained in the program. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach and the method used is content analysis method. The data in this study are all utterances that contain assertive speech acts contained in the Mata Najwa program: Summarize Campus Sexual Predators. The source of the data in this study is the overall language activities that occur in the program. Data collection techniques used in this study are: documentation techniques, observation techniques, and note-taking techniques. The data analysis technique used is content analysis technique. The results of this study found 107 data on the use of assertive speech acts. Among them are (1) assertive speech acts informing as much as 68 data, (2) assertive speech acts stating as many as 36 data, (3) assertive speech acts suggesting as many as 2 data, (4) assertive speech acts complaining as much as 1 data. So it can be concluded that the most widely used assertive speech act is the speech act of informing. This happens because the program is a program that provides information.
