Abstract
Welding is the most widely used metal joining process today, because welding has many advantages, including being practical, the results are reliable, efficient and economical. This study aims to study the effect of stress on tensile stress and microstructure in the welding of SS400 steel. The application of SS400 steel is used for ship construction, welding processes involving voltage variations, namely 70 V, 75 V and 80 V. In this study, the SMAW welding process was carried out on SS400 steel with an E6013 electrode type with a diameter of 2.6 mm and the type of seam used used seam X. After the welding process, do a tensile test and observe the microstructure. The results of the study showed that the tensile stress on the welding results on SS400 steel with a voltage of 75 V had the highest average tensile stress value of the voltages used at 446.2 Mpa, while at 80 V it had the highest average elongation value of between the voltages used by 5.6%. From the photos of the microstructure for a voltage of 70 V and 80 V, there are ferrite and pearlite phases. While the microstructure of welding with a voltage of 75 V is in the form of a martensite phase in the HAZ area, and in the WELD and Base Metal areas there are ferrite and pearlite phases. This results in a large difference in the phase size at the boundary of the HAZ area. The good mechanical properties of the three voltage ratios is 75 V which can be seen from the average value of the tensile test results on the tensile strength which has the highest value.
