Abstract
Welding can be interpreted as a process of joining two pieces of metal to the point of recrystallization of metal, with or without using added materials and using heat energy as a melting agent for the material being welded. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the effect of welding current on SMAW welding with SS 400 type JIS material. G3101 on tensile strength, impact strength. This study uses SMAW welding with current variations of 90 A, 100 A, 110 A. to find out how the properties of the welding results that occur in SS400 Steel will affect the mechanical properties that occur after testing. The highest tensile strength was shown by the material being welded with a current of 100 A (ie 488 MPa) while the lowest tensile strength was shown by the material being welded with a current of 90 A (ie 426.6 MPa). Then in the 90 A current impact test it has a value of 1.042 joules/mm2, this value then rises to around 1.122 joules/mm2 in the second test, and drops again to around 0.981 joules/mm2 in the third test. This was followed by a welding current of 100 A, which was around 0.882 joules/mm2 in the first test, this value then increased to around 1.563 joules/mm2 in the second test, and again decreased to around 1222 joules/mm2 in the third test. This was followed by a welding current of 110 A, namely around 0.801 joules/mm2, this value then rose to around 1382 joules/mm2 in the second test, and fell back to around 1.222 joules/mm2 in the third test. causing suboptimal results
