Abstract

Online loans have become an issue that has recently attracted attention, especially in Pangkalan Kerinci. This is because online loans are considered to be one of the things that causes a lot of losses for consumers. Therefore, the aim of this research is to examine further regarding legal protection in online loan agreements for consumers in Pangkalan Kerinci. This research uses normative legal methods with interview techniques. The results of this research show that legal protection efforts for debtors in online loan agreements involve several important aspects. First of all, consumer protection is directed at transparency and clarity of information in online loan agreements. The debtor has the right to understand all terms of the agreement, including interest rates, additional fees, and payment terms. Consumer protection laws and regulations issued by relevant authorities, such as the Financial Services Authority (OJK), are the basis for regulating this protection. This form of legal protection for consumers involves sanctions or penalties against business actors who violate consumer protection provisions. The application of these sanctions may take the form of fines or other administrative sanctions. Apart from that, business actors' responsibilities also include responding quickly and transparently to consumer complaints. Effective dispute resolution mechanisms, such as alternative dispute resolution institutions or mediation, can be part of these safeguards.
