Abstract
Steel Material S45C means the type of material "Medium Carbon Steel" (0.30.5% C). With this moderate carbon content, it is possible for this type of steel to improve its mechanical properties. This carbon steel has low strength and ductility values, to improve these mechanical properties using heat treatment, this plays an important role in efforts to increase the hardness and ductility of steel according to its use. Medium carbon steel is categorized as machinery steel steel which is commonly used in components/parts such as: gears, couplings, pulleys, axles, pistons, rails. In this final project, the focus is on the use of various chisel materials and workpieces to determine the impact of the type of chisel and workpiece on the resulting surface roughness and cutting time. The turning results are very influential on the tool bit and the selected rotational speed, it can be seen in this study that the carbide bit with a speed of 500 rpm is the most suitable for turning on S45C steel material because the results are the smallest or the smoothest.
