Abstract
ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECT OF ELECTRODE PLATE DISTANCE ON THE PERFORMANCE OF (WET TYPE) HHO GENERATOR USING ELECTROLYSIS METHOD Agus Suwandono1, Rafil Arizona2 Department of Mechanical Engineering Faculty of Engineering, Islamic University of Riau Kaharuddin Nasution Street NO. 133 Perhentian Marpoyan Pekanbaru 28284 E-mail: agoes.sudo@student.uir.ac.id ABSTRACT The need for petroleum energy continues to increase every year, other renewable energy is needed, such as water energy. Developing water as an alternative energy because its availability is unlimited like Hydrogen (H2). One way to produce HHO gas is using an electrolizer where this tool will break down the compound water (H2O) hydrogen and oxygen (O2) using direct current (DC) electricity. In this study, a wet cell type HHO generator was used using 304 stainless steel electrodes with a thickness of 1mm with variations in electrode spacing of 3mm, 4mm and 5mm. Electrolyte solution in the form of 1 gram of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is dissolved in 1 liter of water. This study aims to determine the best HHO generator performance with variations in electrode distance. From the results of research that has been carried out to obtain 300 ml of HHO gas at a distance of 3mm, the power used is 102 watts, 16095.6 joules of electrical energy and the production rate of HHO gas is 9.33×10-7 kg/s with an efficiency of 21.78%. 4mm distance, the power used is 75.6 watts with 15059.52 joules of electrical energy and the HHO gas production rate is 7.39×10-7 kg/s and 23.35% efficiency. 5mm distance, the power used is 58.8 watts with 19698 joules of electrical energy and the HHO gas production rate is 4.4×10-7 kg/s with an efficiency of 17.80%. The best HHO gas production rate is at a distance of 3mm, because the closer the electrode plate distance, the greater the HHO gas production rate. From several factors that affect the efficiency of the HHO generator, the best efficiency is obtained at 4 mm electrode distance with an efficiency of 23.3% and the lowest efficiency at 5mm distance with 17.80% Water Electrolysis, Hydrogen, Wet Cell Type HHO Generator, Electrode Plate Distance Variation
