Abstract

Assimilation is an activity to develop prisoners which is carried out by integrating prisoners into community life. However, assimilation, which is a program from the government in providing release to prisoners based on fulfilling the conditions that have been determined, has been carried out, but the implementation of assimilation is not all going well, because there are still parties who receive or are given assimilation. carrying out criminal acts that have been previously committed. The formulation of the research problem is related to law enforcement against recidivists who commit crimes after receiving the assimilation program at the Bukit Raya Police, Pekanbaru, and the police's efforts to tackle crimes committed by recidivists who are free because of assimilation. The research method is empirical or sociological legal research, while its nature is descriptive, namely where the author describes in a clear and detailed manner the problems to be studied. The research findings show that law enforcement against recidivists who commit crimes after receiving the assimilation program is carried out by giving written warnings to prisoners about the crimes they have committed and making arrests in accordance with established procedures by stipulating articles that are burdensome for prisoners. However, because this assimilation program is not followed by stricter sanctions for prisoners who repeat criminal acts, law enforcement cannot be carried out optimally to provide punishment to prisoners. The police's efforts to tackle criminal acts committed by recidivists who have received assimilation have not gone well due to obstacles in implementing sanctions against convicts who repeat criminal acts. This obstacle is because recidivists who have been assimilated have no job opportunities while the economy immediately becomes an urgent need.
