Abstract

Brake pads are one of the components in motorcycle vehicles which are very important because they are related to driving safety factors due to the lack of attention to the quality of the brake pads. The factors that affect the wear of the brake pads are speed, pressure, hardness, surface and hardness of the material. Scientific writing aims to determine the effect of vehicle speed variations on the wear of the brake pads (Disc Brake) on motorcycles. In this study, variations in vehicle speed were selected from speeds of 10 km/hour, 20 km/hour, 30 km/hour, 40 km/hour and 50 km/hour within 10 minutes each speed was held with a load of 5 kg. The highest wear rate test results occurred at a vehicle speed of 50 Km/hour, namely 8.18.10-6g/mm2.second. This is due to an increase in vehicle speed when braking for a set time which can cause abrasions from the brake pads to the disc brakes thereby increasing the wear and tear on the non-asbestos-based brake linings. The highest hardness test results occurred at a vehicle speed of 10 Km/hour, namely 29.82 BHN. This is due to the increased vehicle speed when braking for a specified time which can cause scuffing of the brake pads in the occurrence of erosion of the disc brakes on the brake linings thereby reducing the hardness value of the brake linings. However, from the results of microstructural observations, it appears that there are few scratches at a speed of 10 km/hour and conversely more visible at a speed of 50 km/hour.
