Abstract
Explanatory text explains the relationship of events or the process of something happening (in full). These events are arranged chronologically or in order of time and are arranged causally (cause and effect). In the form of natural, social, or cultural events, and science. The problem in this research is. (1) How is the ability to write explanatory texts for class XI students at SMA Negeri 1 Pangkalan Koto Baru, Fifty Cities District for the 2022/2023 Academic Year? (2) How is the ability to write explanatory texts for class XI students at SMA Negeri 1 Pangkalan Koto Baru, Fifty Cities District for the 2022/2023 Academic Year, in terms of language rules? the research objectives were (1) to describe the ability to write explanatory texts for class XI students at SMA Negeri 1 Pangkalan Koto Baru, Fifty Cities District for the 2022/2023 Academic Year, seen from the structure of the text. (2) Describe the ability to write explanatory texts for class XI students at SMA Negeri 1 Pangkalan Koto Baru, Fifty Cities District for the 2022/2023 Academic Year, seen from the language rules of the text. The research method used is descriptive method with a quantitative approach. Data collection techniques used are observation techniques and test techniques. The data analysis techniques used were (1) Examining and examining carefully each sheet of student learning outcomes, (2) The ability of students to write explanatory texts was assessed using an assessment guide, namely a rubric, (3) Calculating the percentage value of students' ability to write explanatory texts by calculating , (4) Entering values into the table of the ability to write explanatory texts, (5) Calculating the values into the average writer using the Sudijono formula (2011: 18), (6) Entering the values of writing explanatory texts into the category table according to the aspect being assessed. The conclusions in this study are (1) The average ability to write explanatory texts for class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Pangkalan Koto Baru, Fifty Cities District for the 2022/2023 academic year in terms of text structure is 81.87, so the students' ability to write explanatory texts seen from structure is categorized as Good. (2) The average ability to write explanatory texts for class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Pangkalan Koto Baru, Fifty Cities District for the 2022/2023 Academic Year, seen from the language rules of the text, is 73.07, so the ability to write students' explanatory texts, seen from the structure, is in the Enough category. Good.
