Abstract

In learning mathematics, various problems that are often encountered include students not understanding how to solve mathematical problems, students not understanding mathematical problems that are connected to real life, lack of motivation to diligently study mathematics. The aim of the research is to determine whether there is an effect of implementing the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on students' mathematical reasoning abilities and learning motivation. This research is a Quasi Experimental research with the research design being Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The research population was all students at SMPN 34 in Pekanbaru. The sample was selected using Purposive Sampling technique. The data collection techniques used are test and observation techniques. Data on students' mathematical reasoning abilities and learning motivation were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Based on the t-test, it can be concluded that students' mathematical reasoning abilities and learning motivation using the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach are better than students' mathematical reasoning abilities and learning motivation using conventional learning.
