Abstract

Mathematical communication ability is a basic ability that students must have in learning mathematics. This study aims to analyze the mathematical communication skills of students in terms of gender differences. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects in this study were students of class VIII MTs Hasanah Pekanbaru consisting of 3 male students and 3 female students with the category of high, medium, and low ability students. Data collection techniques in this study are test techniques using mathematical communication ability test instruments and non-test techniques, namely interview guidelines. The data analysis technique was carried out with the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study showed that in the high category, male subjects met three indicators and did not fulfill one indicator, while female subjects met four indicators. Then the medium category in male subjects fulfills three indicators and does not fulfill one indicator, while female subjects fulfill two indicators and do not fulfill two indicators. Furthermore, the low category in male subjects did not fulfill one indicator and three other indicators did not fulfill, while female subjects did not fulfill three indicators and did not fulfill one indicator.
