Abstract
The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach on the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students in grade IX of SMP Negeri 25 Pekanbaru. This type of research is quasi-experimental. The experimental design used in this research is Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research population was all students in grade IX of SMP Negeri 25 Pekanbaru. The sample used in the research was selected using a purposive sampling technique which determined that class IX.9 students were the experimental class using the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach and class IX.5 students were the control class with conventional learning. The data collection technique used is a test in the form of a Pretest and Posttest. The data analysis used in this research is descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. Where inferential analysis there are 3 tests, namely the normality test, variance homogeneity test and t test. The research results show that in the Posttest t test tcount > ttable with 4.17 > 1.998. Thus, the Ho hypothesis is rejected and H1 is accepted so that there is an influence of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach on the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students in grade IX of SMP Negeri 25 Pekanbaru.
