Abstract

One of the industries that many entrepreneurs run in the Regency Meranti Islands is an MSME industry, relying on resources locally available entrepreneurs can create various types processed from sago basic ingredients. With the development of this MSME industry certainly very useful for the majority of people in Tebing District High Meranti Islands Regency, because it can overcome the problem employment and increase income. The aim of this study to: 1) Describe the entrepreneurial characteristics possessed by owners of MSME processed sago agro-industry; 2) Identify external factors and business performance of sago processing agroindustry; 3) Analyze influence entrepreneurial characteristics and external factors in supporting the increase sago processed agro-industry MSME performance. This research was conducted in Tebing Tinggi District, Meranti Islands Regency which was carried out for 6 (six) months from March 2020 to August 2020, with using the survey method. In this study using a sample of 33 entrepreneurs. The data collected consists of secondary data and primary data. The analytical tools used are descriptive analysis and SEM-PLS. Whole Variables are measured with 35 question items using a Likert scale with scale of 1 to 5. Characteristics of entrepreneurship analyzed and studied in This research is self-confidence, risk-taking, result-oriented, work hard, innovative and leadership. Measurement of business performance in this study using increased marketing, sales volume and business profits. External factor variables are intermediary variables with indicators government policy, social culture and economy. Based on analysis Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Partial Least Square (PLS), it is known that external factors have an R-square value of 0.537 and business performance has an R-square value of 0.646. So that the influence of characteristics is obtained entrepreneurship on business performance has a Q-square value of 0.825. Based on From these results it can be concluded that the model formed is good because has a calculated Q-square value above 0 which is close to 1. So the model has predictive relevance. But based on the results of the analysis obtained that external factors do not have a real and significant impact on business performance. It can be concluded that the characteristics Entrepreneurship is better optimized because it has a very important role important in improving business performance in the absence of external factors. With The existence of this research is expected to be able to help MSME owners in improving the performance of sago processed agro-industry SMEs in Tebing District Meranti Islands Regency High School.
