Abstract
Speaking is an important ability that students must develop. The English Listening and Speaking application is a tool used to help students learn English and enhance their speaking abilities. This study aimed to find out the significant effect of English Listening and Speaking application towards Students’ Speaking Ability at the Tenth Grade Students of SMAN 11 Pekanbaru. This study used experimental research as the research methodology. The researcher applied English Listening and Speaking application as media in the experimental class. While in the control class, the researcher did not apply the media. The sample of this study was X.9 as the experimental class and X.2 was the control class. The total population in this study was 32 students of SMAN 11 Pekanbaru. The instrument of this study was a speaking test which consisted of pre-test and post-test. The result showed that applying English Listening and Speaking application as media had a significant effect on students' speaking ability. Students’ mean score in pre-test was 64.34 and post-test was 73.53. Following treatment, it increased by 9.87 at the significant level of 0.05. As a result, the value of t-obs was 6.116>2,048. The null (H0) hypothesis was rejected and (Ha) alternative hypothesis was accepted. In summary, there was a significant effect of English Listening and Speaking application towards students’ speaking ability at the tenth grade students of SMAN 11 Pekanbaru.
