Abstract
Culture Adaptation is one of the events experienced by someone when they are in a new environment (migratory). This event was experienced by overseas students in Pekanbaru City. They feel frustrated with their new environment and feel afraid to start communicating with the surrounding community due to differences in dialect and understanding of vocabulary. This study aims to determine the adaptation process of overseas students who experience culture shock and find out what factors are the background of culture shock. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, the data sources used are premier and secondary data with a total of 5 informants. From the results of this study it was found that the differences in the conditions experienced by each overseas student in Pekanbaru City were in five phases of cultural adaptation. Differences in cultural backgrounds cause students to experience culture shock in Pekanbaru City. Students choose to survive and adapt to all the conditions they encounter, so they adapt to the new culture. The factors that became the background for the occurrence of culture shock experienced by students were language factors, food factors, safety factors.
