Abstract

This study aims to find out what values are contained in the poetry of Sultan Mahmud IV (Sultan Mahmud Muzaffar Syah) in Lingga Regency, Riau Islands Province. This research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The data collection techniques used are observation techniques, interview techniques, and documentation techniques. The subjects of this study were 4 people consisting of 1 local traditional leader, 1 art activist, and 2 history enthusiasts. The data analysis techniques used in this study are data reduction, data display, and verification conclusion making. The conclusion of this study explains the values contained in the poems of Sultan Mahmud IV. In the results of this poem research has 4 values contained in it, namely religious values that became the guidelines and references of Sultan Mahmud IV during his reign, social values that occur between one ethnicity and another ethnicity that respects each other which also creates harmony between others, artistic and literary values where many arts are depicted during the sultanate of Sultan Mahmud IV, And the value of tradition as a thing that is very much considered in every procession that exists can also be passed on from generation to generation.
